Raised Relief Style
HOW THEY ARE MADE:
The raised relief process is a method of stacking art elements on top of each other or the base itself. The complexity of a raised relief project can be simple as two letter stacked upon each other or detail-oriented with multiple elements stack on top of and within each other..
The raised relief production process is lengthy due to the multiple steps of priming, sanding and painting the MDF wood. Three coats of spray primer, with a detailed sanding in between each, is required for each element in the project. The final color coat is applied twice for a maximum depth and gloss. Because of the use of spray enamel paint in the raised relief process, multiple colors, textures and finishes are available. These can included hammered metal to metallic colors.
Three coats of hand-brushed semi-gloss spar urethane protects the sign from moisture, UV and scuffs. Hanger eyelets or rear mounts are added, if requested.
PICKING YOUR DESIGN ELEMENTS OR BRINGING YOUR OWN DESIGN:
It doesn’t matter if you have a design or logo already, or have a need for a sign and no idea of what it would look like! I can work with your art elements, your ideas or provide you with several illustrations samples you can pick from that best works for your needs.
PRODUCTION TIME: Minimum of 2 weeks, depending on the size and complexity.
COST: Varies, based on size and detail. A rough estimate can be provided in discussing your needs. Once artwork is finalized a firm cost estimate can be provided. Prices have ranged from $250 for a small (12”x18”) sign to a several hundred dollars for larger signs around 48”. There is no “maximum size” for a sign; just share where you plan to display the sign and we can discuss appropriate sizes.
VARIATIONS & INTEGRATIONS: The raised relief process can also be integrated with sunken relief, hand-carved or resin-filled styles.
